Refael Samet
Rafi, who has been Kibbutz Kissufim's ambulance driver for 45 years, was on call on Saturday. At the first barrage, he entered the safe room with Susie, his wife, and waited for calls. A few minutes later, his grandson, Idan, a soldier on leave, arrived at the door wounded by two bullets fired by the terrorists disguised as soldiers. Rafi went out to get the medic's bag and was shot in the palm of his hand, which started bleeding. While they were treating each other, Rafi noticed several terrorist squads firing at the houses and RPG at the nearby Kissufim base. A terrorist spotted Rafi and fired into the house, but they were not hit. Wounded, they were stuck for 16 hours in the safe room, during which time Rafi continued to receive requests for treatment and rescue. At night, in the dark, they thought they heard burglars breaking into the house. Idan prepared his weapon for battle. At the last minute, they realized that the army had come to rescue them.
