Testimony of
Liat Ben- shimol
Liat Ben Shimol, a 43-year-old educational counselor and mother of three, spent hours in the safe room with her husband, two of her children, and her father, who was visiting, without knowing what was happening outside. The barrage of rockets and sounds of gunfire were accompanied by power and water outages and a lack of cellular reception. "There was no time to feel; I only knew that if a terrorist entered, I would fight to save the children. I admit, we were all scared. No one talked about it."
In the afternoon, they were rescued by soldiers who went from house to house, waited for them to pack and feed the cats, and escorted them on a harrowing drive out of the moshav. Along the way, they witnessed the destruction of the moshav and realized that the bodies lying there were those of their friends. They drove to friends in Rehovot and are now staying in Ma'ale Hachamisha.
