Etel Bennett
Etel Bennett, a 72-year-old musician, lives alone in a house on the edge of the kibbutz. She entered the safe room when the alarms sounded, believing that "the IDF is sure to take care of the matter." She didn't know what was happening all morning and even fell asleep (and worried her family when she didn't answer the phone). To her grandson's request that she equip herself with a knife, she replied, "I'm not Rambo. I'm not going to fight anyone with knives." The shock hit when her friend from Netiv HaAsara told her about the murder of Yigal- her former son-in-law - and his brother, Amit Vex. It was only days later that she realized what had happened and what might have happened in Zikim, and since then, she has been dealing with mixed emotions - guilt that nothing happened to her, relief at that, a crisis of confidence in the army and recognition of the good that is influencing the people of Israel.
