Early on Saturday morning, Barry Meirovitch, commander of Nahal Oz’s Civil Security Squad, left his family in the safe room and went out with his deputy, Nissan, to fight dozens of terrorists who invaded the kibbutz. Conducting house to house gun battles,rescuing the injured, and directing army forces, once those arrived, they led the efforts to defend Nahal Oz. When the fighting was over Barry took charge of evacuating all residents to safety. After the October 7 events, he was made one of Nahal Oz’s community managers."
